Copycat Panera’s Mac and Cheese: Attempt One

Panera’s macaroni and cheese is one of the best food inventions. It’s thick and creamy. Melty and a strong Vermont Cheddar flavor. In short, it’s worth every calorie.

I’m in search of the perfect copycat recipe.

Here is attempt one:






  • Pasta
  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Milk
  • American White Cheese
  • Extra Sharp Vermont Cheddar Cheese
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Salt
  • Hot Sauce


This recipe turned out to be a similar thickness and creamy-ness as the Panera version, unfortunately the dijon mustard over-powered the whole dish. The pasta was still delicious and I certainly consumed my fair share of it, it was not however the Panera version.

On to the next copycat recipe I can find.
