I have very thick and coarse hair which I often straighten, needless to say my hair is always dry, brittle and full of split ends. I’ve tried other homemade hair masks that have not been successful. Since I had a jar of coconut oil in my pantry that had yet to be opened at all, I figured I would give it a try.
Start with dry hair that is free from any hair products.
I used Sonoma Harvest Coconut Oil. Take about 1/2 teaspoon of solid coconut oil at a time and rub through your hands till it melts from the heat. In total, I used around 4 tablespoons of solid oil for my hair.
Start at the ends of your hair giving them the most attention and work your way up.
Making sure to saturate all of your hair.
Comb through your hair just to make sure that your hair is completely saturated.
Cover your hair in a shower cap and let it sit for 30-40 minutes. (I could not find a shower cap, so I used a plastic bag instead). After 40 minutes wash your hair like normal, it may take a few washes for it to no longer feel greasy.
After just one treatment, my hair was very shiny and smooth. I also found that it was easier and much faster to straighten my hair after the treatment. Now that I’ve washed my hair a few times since, my hair is starting to become very dry again. I plan on working this hair treatment into my beauty routine to keep my hair soft and shiny especially now that we are heading into the winter months.
