I love homemade food. The lovely aromas while it cooks, eating food warm and straight from the oven is pure heaven. Sometimes, especially being a mom who works full-time, I need a little help. I found these chocolate croissants at Trader Joe’s (if you haven’t noticed by now, I’m a sucker for anything French) and I knew I had to try them. I didn’t expect much from them, since they were frozen and only $3.99.You take them out of the packing and let them proof overnight. Basically, you put them on a pan uncovered and leave them alone. I take them out before I go to bed, and just stick the pan in a cold oven, just so my dogs aren’t tempted to grab at them on the counter. The next morning, they have tripled in size and you can see all of the wonderful layers. Heat the oven to 350 F. By all the layers, you know these are authentic croissants. Take one egg and beat it. I glaze both very generously. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. And them come out like this. Beautiful, golden puffs of pure french indulgent. Little Miss and I enjoy these with a big glass of cold milk. It is no exaggeration when I say that these are some of the best croissants that I have ever eaten. Not frozen, but have ever eaten. They are flaky and buttery, with the warm chocolate. They are simply perfect. I save them for special weekends, because otherwise I would eat them everyday and hide them all from her. If you live near a Trader Joe’s, these are a must try!
